Remodel

Designed by Emilia Decor

This house is over 100+ years old in the historic Irvington neighborhood. The house was purchased by out clients who are newlyweds. This is their first home together. For this project, it was important to keep the original charm of the home while melding the two clients' styles. Cara loves fun pops of color and Jim appreciates the old world quality craftsmanship of the home's architecture. We painted every square inch of this home. Every wall, ceiling, base, door, and molding was painted by our team. There was around 10-12 different paint colors in this home! We wallpapered a good amount of the walls and ceilings. We converted two of their wood burning fireplaces with gas fireplace inserts. The main living room was redone in a beautiful lime wash and mosaic tile hearth. The kitchen was all new paint, including the cabinetry and we removed an old pantry style storage cupboard for a much larger, custom walnut pantry with retractable pocket doors which allowed for a coffee station and extra countertop space. Every interior door in the home was refurbished and repaired by our carpentry team. There is over 14 doors! We spec’d and replaced a large french patio door, one exterior door in the basement, and a second exterior door onto the second story terrace. We added a fully custom laundry room with pink cabinets and covered the wall in a floral 24x48” tile with a new sink and Kohler fixtures and a new washer and dryer. We were able to create and add a third fireplace on the main floor in their cozy den area. We built out a new electrical fireplace with a cute recessed cubby for books or wood decor.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Cara is incredibly busy as the director for the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network. They travel a TON and have the cutest little chihuahua, Toby. They appreciate high touch communication and a structured plan of attack and action. Jim is handy and grew up doing home renovation projects with his dad. Hes handy and was able to hop in and help on some of the small things we needed throughout the project.

PROJECT GOALS

The clients wanted to make this home their own while keeping the original charm and architecture. The age of the house was important to consider. We wanted to completely make over the entire house while keeping structural work at a minimum. Emmy was amazing at creating a vision for us to execute. We had a tight turnaround time on this one as we REALLY wanted them to be back in by the holidays and Thanksgiving… This gave me 3 months to get the job done… I’m happy to say… we made it happen!

AKL’S APPROACH

Our approach was simple. Execute Emmys designs and the clients expectations as quickly and flawlessly as possible. They lived in the house for the first stage of the project but were out the remaining 2 months. We worked through the messy early stages with them there and then took over once painting started and raced to the finish line.

“Communication was excellent, project management was great, on-site experience was superb.”

We liked how responsive Ashley and her team were when we texted with a question (or a crisis of which there were very few!). We enjoyed working with Ashley and her team so much, we have contracted them for a small phase 2!
