Two Bathroom Remodel

Design • Remodel

The client hired AKL to remodel her upstairs bathrooms. She worked with Shannon on design first to develop and source material selections for the spaces. One bathroom was a hallway bath that her two daughters share. The other, her primary ensuite bathroom.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client thrives in both her professional and personal lives. She works in public relations and is a dedicated mother to two daughters, one a teenager and the other ten years old.

PROJECT GOALS

Optimizing the Shared Bathroom: One of the main goals for the hallway bathroom was to gain as much storage as possible for the girls.  With two of them using the same bathroom they needed as much functionality as possible to store both of their items. There was a tub previously and now that the girls are older they preferred to have a walk in shower that felt much larger, creating a more spacious and modern feel.

Crafting a Private Oasis: The primary bathroom aimed to fulfill a different purpose – a personal sanctuary just for her. Inspired by spa aesthetics, the design prioritized creating a space that evokes tranquility and rejuvenation, a true oasis for relaxation.

AKL’S APPROACH

Creating Custom Storage Solutions for the Girls' Bath: Our approach for the girls bath was to create innovative ways to give the client the storage they needed in a very tight and compact space. To ensure we kept the integrity of the design direction while adding in more storage, we knew we needed to make something custom.

Crafting a Spa-Like Retreat in the Primary Bath: For the primary bathroom, we understood the necessity of incorporating calm, bright, and neutral materials to cultivate the spa-like ambiance we aimed for. Due to budget parameters, we decided to keep all plumbing in relatively the same place for both bathrooms. While the layout remained unchanged, the end result significantly enlarged the space by replacing the bath tub with a freestanding soaker tub in the primary bathroom. Additionally, we maximized functionality in the primary bathroom by utilizing previously vacant corner space. Custom cabinetry and floating shelves provided additional concealed storage and displayed linens, jars, and other items. The addition of high-quality tiles to both bathrooms elevated the overall aesthetic. With lighter wall paint, new light fixtures, and specialty terracotta Cle tile, both of these bathrooms are now exactly what the client was looking for.
